Musée des Beaux-Arts Museum is one of the must see attractions of the island. It was closed for extensive renovation works and was reopened in 2010. The Museum was established by the uncle of Napoleon and has a very extensive collection of Italian paintings. Most of the paintings you will find here where done by anonymous or minor artists in between the 14th to 19th century. Some of the canvases were made by Bellini, Botticelli, Veronese, Fra Bartolomeo and Titian. One of the masterpieces by Botticelli, “La Vierge à l'Enfant Soutenu par un Ange” or “The mother and Child supported by an Angel” is a must see in this Museum. Temporary exhibitions are also held in the Museum. The Imperial Chapel which was built in 1860 is the final resting place for many members of the Imperial family that rest in a crypt. However, the remains of the famous French emperor Napoleon will not be found here, since he was buried in Paris.
