A Travel Guide to Alicante
Situated in the South of the Valencia Community, the City of Alicante in Spain is considered as one of the most visited places in the country, next to Madrid and Barcelona. Being the capital of the province of Alicante, the city is enjoyed by large number of local and international tourists, due to its almost perfect climate. Alicante Port; one of the largest ports in the country, serves as the most frequent gateway for visitors who are going in and out of the city. Furthermore, this magnificent city can also be reached by frequent direct flights from other neighbouring European countries.
Modern living runs harmoniously with traditional culture as many of the residents are still living in classic houses in traditional villages. The splendid panoramic views of its mountains and beaches have continued to attract more and more visitors which ameliorated its economic growth over the years. Moreover, due to its proximity to other adjacent countries, approximately 15% of its population is composed of immigrants from nations such as Romania, Ukraine and Morocco.
Aside from its famous beaches and shorelines, the City of Alicante boasts a number of other tourist attractions. One of the best examples of such is the Santa Barbara Castle where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Prostiguet Beach and the entire city itself. The fact that it is such a small city, most tourists spend their time walking along its beautiful streets as they indulge with some of Spain’s most famous gastronomic delights.
The Mediterranean summer climate of the city makes it the most favored summer destination for the locals as well as for other neighbouring foreign nationalities. The pristine waters of the six- kilometer white sand shoreline of San Juan beach is indeed a sight to see; it is even touted as a perfect place for a summer vacation; away from the hustle and bustle of its nearby cities and provinces.
Alicante is brimming with world-class restaurants that cater to people from different cultural origins. Some of the must-try traditional Spanish cuisines like Paella and Tapa can be easily enjoyed at any of the restaurants and hotels within the city. There are many other interesting places to visit in Alicante; like gothic-style cathedrals and a number of museums that exhibit the local artifacts, dating from over centuries ago. A collection of artwork and local handicrafts are also in display. Thus, a few days stay is highly-recommended in order to fully enjoy all the amenities this dazzling city has to offer.
There is a wide variety of self catering holiday accommodation in the Alicante area ranging from penthouse and studio apartments overlooking the beaches to luxury villas with their own swimming pools and tropical gardens.
